So, here we go…  I’ve answered the questions to the best of my current ability…

10.  What channel is the show on?

The show is on my YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/user/TheSelinaRayShow as well as here at http://www.theselinarayshow.com and several other places on the internet.  It can be watched world-wide 24/7.

 9.  Can I see the show in my country?

YES!  Of course.  If you have internet access you can watch the show anywhere/anytime.  So please… enjoy!

 8.  What is a web series?

As per Wikipedia:  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_series

A web series is a series of episodes released on the Internet or also by mobile or cellular phone, and part of the newly emerging medium called web television. A single instance of a web series program is called an episode or webisode.

7.  Do you need assistance with filming?

 6.  How do you find your guests?

Today, finding my guests has become much easier.  We find each other, through networking and sometimes I ‘cold call’ or contact prospective guests via email.  I share about what the show is about and ask if they’d like to be on it.  Sometimes, I surprise myself.

  4.  Are you going to do ‘virtual’ shows?

You mean like through ‘Skype’? or on ‘Live Stream’?  I hope so… I’m looking into what equipment I’ll need and when I can get the technical part down (no problem), there will be an announcement.  Looking forward to having conversations with people all over the world!  The idea really gets me excited!

 3.  What has been your favorite topic to date?

This is the most difficult to answer, because every topic and guest has been hand-picked by me.  I am passionate and excited to present them all!  The Astrology show with Divine Harmony stands out… I’ve always had a deep fascination with Astrology and the Shadow.  Divine’s expertise really inspires me.  Hopefully, we will see her this season too!

 2.  Why don’t you film on a set?

The show was set up to be mobile, ‘on the fly’ ‘gorilla style’… One shot with minimal editing.  With the challenges that I have encountered over the past year with sound, camera issues, filming locations (which I don’t see until I get to the shoot) and lighting… I’d love to evolve to a more stability in filming and editing.  Will shall see.  I’d like to have it remain organic, so who knows…

How do you make money doing your show?

The answer is… I Don’t.  Not yet anyway… The show has been a passion of mine over the past year, an offshoot of my “Wayshower” Blog, coaching practice and a natural (albeit challenging) evolution of my personal growth.

As the show has evolved and requests come in with the desire for a more polished look, I am seeing how important it is to find a way to monetize the production… to pay for itself.  My camera is on loan from the father of my beautiful son – he creates shows for television.  I’m editing on my small Macbook and have taught myself the technical aspects.

Last week I added a PayPal Donation button on my websites and on my posts… For those compelled to donate towards the show’s production.  I’m looking to offer advertising packages soon to also assist in the funding for the show.  If you have any ideas that you’d like to share, I’d love to hear them!

What’s next for the show’s 2nd Episode?

When deciding on my guest for February, I reached way back to a time when I consciously embarked on my Spiritual Journey.  One of my “Teachers” at the time, spoke of the importance of ‘finding your voice’.  I didn’t quite understand what that meant or how to actually do it and it took me some time to realize that our ‘voice’ is our individual soul expression.  For me, it would have been wonderful to have discovered someone who really understood the Mind – Soul – Voice Connection.

I recently found this “someone” through a Facebook friend who ‘sang’ her praises!

Episode 4 – How it all went down!

Opportunities!

Episode 4… I want to share a little back story, a glimpse into the ever-changing world of this show…  Here is a snippet on how Episode 4 “went down”…  This particular episode was filled with technical and ‘personal’ challenges.  Finding a guest wasn’t too difficult, scheduling the guest was a different story.  I was coming up against conflicts in coordinating availablity.  Determined or stubborn, some might say, I pushed through.  Finally… I believed I had found someone, an expert on a ‘topic’ I was very much interested and they were happily available.  Scheduled and ready to shoot that morning – I received a call – and for personal reasons, they were backing out… Ugh!

I had to find a new guest… and FAST.  May’s show was to air on the 3rd and I had less than a week to replace my guest, shoot and have the producer edit and upload.  Whew!

Something all the while, was presenting itself – as if to “Bless” me with an opportunity.  Over the course of the show, my producer hadn’t been shy to voice his disdain for the quality of the photos I had been taking, (No… I am not a professional).  Hmmm… This gave me an idea and I set out to recruit my friend, Reinaldo Robinson of RMR Pictures.  Reinaldo, an amazing professional photographer based in Los Angeles and New York, has a solid background in teaching a novice such as myself, on just how to take a picture – whether it’s “what to look for” or “what to avoid”.  Reinaldo, at the last-minute, graciously agreed to be my guest for Episode 4.

Of course, keeping in line with the challenges faced… the digital camera I had planned to use as a prop during the shoot, was ‘smashed’ the day before filming (a whole other story).  How was I going to make this work?  Thinking on our feet, Reinaldo and I decided to use our cell phones as the prop, which turned out to be absolutely perfect.  

With the filming complete, the footage was passed to the producer for edit and upload on Tuesday.  In all honesty, there was a little banter back and forth between the producer and I, regarding the topic.  As it turns out…  he loved the show, after actually watching it!  More importantly however, the viewer feedback was positive.

Indeed, another opportunity... This whole experience was a great Gift in ‘learning’ to be thicker skinned and most importantly in Trusting myself.

Let me take the time to Thank Reinaldo for being my guest and teaching me (us) some valuable tools that I’ve used extensively to this day.  Frankly, I’ve surprised myself at what fabulous pictures I’ve been able to take… even with my cell phone!

A Peek Inside the ‘The Selina Ray Show’…

Preparing for a shoot…

What does that mean?  

I thought I’d give you a Peek inside what goes into a shoot… It’s Simple!

Kodak Playsport HD1080p Camera

Check List

  • Charge - Kodak HD1080p
  • Clean Lense
  • Pack tripods (3 styles, depending on the location of the shoot)
  • Timer
  • Directions to the location
  • Bottle of water

Notes?

I prepare them prior, sending an overview & potential questions to my guest… I then leave them on my table at home.  Why?  I want the show to be a conversation – not necessarily an interview…  I wrote the notes and I’m aware of what I’d like to know, so I go into every shoot with comfort.  This allows for a fluid discussion… one which has the divine opportunity to be guided by  ”Spirit”.

I enjoyed sitting down with Joanne Cohen for a one on one conversation regarding a Holistic approach to emotional & physical healing.  She is a delight and filled with wonderful knowledge… I am grateful to have this amazing opportunity!

Keep the Faith and Be Yourself…

‘The Selina Ray Show’ Episode #5?  It was ‘in the can’… or so I thought.  Ahh… such is Life! Going with the flow – saying this, is much easier than the actual ‘doing’ or ‘going’.  With this I’d like to address the ‘what and how’ of the show, so here goes…

When I was approached to do the show, the producer and I envisioned pretty much what you’re seeing today… Raw, organic and with an ‘on the fly’ or ‘guerilla’ style.  Low production and content driven.  Frankly, with regard to the production… this is completely opposite of my personality – a detailed and perfectionist attitude… Another lesson for me, in Letting Go.

This all being said… Episode #5 looked to be everything I wanted it to be… My guest, she was/is perfect… the location and setting were ideal… We set up, began my traditional ‘one take’ filming… and then…  Yes.  Sound.  A leaf blower down the canyon – oh… we still finished the conversation with the most amazing content, unfortunately… though the shoot was beautiful, inspiring, informative… the sound was distracting.  I am disappointed, not going to lie, and… though, I struggled with whether to air ‘as is’ – I’ve decided to reshoot this particular topic. Why?… Because all my shows are an unrehearsed conversation, so…  I’ll allow the flow to be what it is – I’m betting we’ll get a whole different show…  Look for it… :)  Airing in August!  

So today… I am looking forward to shooting a whole new subject – haven’t settled on it yet…. And, I embrace the challenge..

There is no other way for me, but to always move forward, never stop… keep the faith and forever… be myself!
